Gustavs Klucis was an artist and a devout communist, one of the most brilliant Soviet propaganda artists, the pioneer of Russian avant-garde and constructivism in the early 20th century. He was born in Latvia but never worked there, and died in Russia as a victim of Stalin’s terror. His fate after the arrest in January 1938 was kept secret for many years. The only thing his widow Valentina Kulagina managed to get from KGB was the date of his death, but years later even that bit of information was found to be wrong.
The film follows the life and career of this controversial artist, using archival material and reenacting scenes from his life with two actors.
