New York City, the early 60's: drugs and flower power, protest and glamour. This is the time when American art starts to flourish.
Henry Geldzahler was there. In 1962 he became curator of contemporary art at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, and in 1970 he mounted the largest exhibition of modern art ever shown at the museum, with over 400 works of art by living American painters, among them Jackson Pollock, Robert Rauschenberg, Mark Rothko, Roy Lichtenstein and Andy Warhol.
The film brings the story of New York during the 60's as seen through the eyes of Geldzahler: bustling with smart young people, films, new designs and advertising, big money – and American art with a new stamp of approval.
