Gil Roman got the terrifyingly frightening job of filling Maurice Béjart dance shoes after the legendary choreographer died. The dance troupe Béjart Ballet Lausanne is the pride of the city – and after Béjart’s death in 2007, the residents must decide whether to keep the company alive. Roman, whom Béjart trained over 30 years and personally chose to be his successor, takes a huge challenge onto his slender shoulders: proving that the show must go on even without its founder. The film follows rehearsals for a performance that will make or break the troupe, including the emotional highs and lows – the hard work, the dancers’ anxieties, and the superhuman efforts (and chain-smoking) of Gil Roman, who understands the magnitude of the task. This is a moving tale of longing for a missing father figure while trying to break away from his shadow.
